My Rocky

On July 21, my mini schnauzer named Rocky and I were going for our evening walk. Rocky was very happy when I put on his leash. When I opened my patio gate, we were immediately attacked by an off leash pit bull. It happened so fast I couldn't believe it. I beat on the pit bull with my cane, but the dog bit me and continued to attack my Rocky. It was the most horrible thing I ever witnessed. Finally, 2 neighbors were able to get the pit bull off of Rocky. I knew in my heart that Rocky was not going to survive, but I rushed him to the nearest animal hospital. Rocky was in extreme pain for 2 days. He died on July 23. The attack on Rocky broke my heart, and it changed me forever. I cannot believe that my best friend was killed while he was doing the thing he loved the most - taking a walk with me.

I remember you playing with your toys,
I remember you watching cartoons with me,
I remember taking you on walks,
I remember the children calling you Rock Star,
I remember brushing your beautiful fur,
I remember giving you treats,
I remember you sitting on my lap,
I remember how happy you always were,
I remember how much you loved me.

I remember...

  2. This article will save lives. It is so important for all victims to share their story to the public to help raise awareness. It's estimated that pit bull type dogs kill 20,000 beloved pets which most of them are considered family members.
Many pit bull advocates do not get when people see a pit bull out in public, we do not know you or your powerful pit bull, so we are
staying far away from you and your powerful pit bull. My thoughts are these, there goes another reckless person who is selfish and
picks an unsafe breed and puts others at risk and other people's beloved pets at risk. While running last summer, there was an 80
pound, powerful pit bull roaming at large in my quite neighborhood. I was able to see it before it saw me. I prayed it would not see me. I slowly backed away. My heart sunk to my stomach. If that unknown pit saw me, and decided it did not like me, I could have been a
goner. Now if that was a beagle roaming loose, I would not have feared for my life. Before my awareness of pit bulls and how many people and beloved pets they have
killed, I would have tried to run passed it.

  4. I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet little dog. Thank you for sharing your story, though I know it must be a hard thing to put these painful thoughts on paper. Stories like yours are what have made me aware of the danger of pit bulls, I used to think they were like any other dog. Not any more. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss, Sue. Losing a pet is devastating and in this case, the loss was compounded with the trauma of watching helplessly while he was killed. Some Pit Bulls can be very dangerous, and just by looking at them, you can't tell which ones are and which ones are not. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls are victims, too. Victims of thugs, puppy mills, and dog fighters, looking to make a fast buck.

    1. Allison you might see pitbulls as victims but you seem to forget that those "victims" are viscious killers one of those "victims" was adopted out to a family his name was Blue two hours later he mauled the 90 year old grandmother to death. Perhaps its better to focus on the real victims instead of the pitbulls. They have been bred to find opponents maul and kill them that is what they do there is no victim in their genetic traits. This is the reason they should be banned and phased out the same goes for all other fighting breeds.I am so sorry you lost your Rocky in this way he was a beautiful snauzer know I will stand by you and fight at your side to stop the madness of pitnutters and their dangerous dogs.

  6. Rocky was so sweet....so tragic that normal dogs have to die because people want to have landsharks.

  7. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm glad for the most part at least you haven't had to come on here and listen to people make excuses for the breed. This is your story, about your pain and I'm so sorry!
I'm very wary about this breed and if my son and I see it while walking our dogs we just go to the other side of the street. Seriously, I'm not that concerned about anyone else's feelings when it comes to the safety of my family or pets.

By sharing your story, even though it's painful, you are educating people. Please remember that, no matter what anyone might say, you are sending positive messages and right now that's an awesome legacy for your Rocky!
You two were very blessed to have been in each other's lives.

  9. I can't fathom being witness to one of my beloved dogs being attacked. God bless you and your baby at the Rainbow Bridge. I fear I would have nightmares the rest of my life, and possibly you have. I would have done as you did, I would have fought with everything in me to save my dog. This is a beautiful tribute to your beautiful baby and I'm so sorry for what you and Rocky suffered.

  13. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I too lost a small dog to the jaws of a pit bull so I can relate to your story. The pain eventually lessens but the fear never goes away, At least that's how it has been for me.
